Poker odds can be simply defined as a set of calculations used to estimate the winning changes and the probability in a particular table.  You might have to learn poker odds in the first hand to avoid learning the skill sets to win by the steepest curves and losing lot of money. There are several frequent poker odds that you can apply in practice for every combination of cards. However, unless you have tried a lot of hands and played lot of tables with complete commitment the poker odds may not strike your brain any further.  To feel the pinch of it, you need to have an in depth study and timely application practice.

Some of the important factors you might need to consider in arriving at your poker odds are:-
• The real size of the pot should be considered
• You need to arrive at if you have most chances of winning or losing

The real size of the pot should be considered in calculating poker odds because you might be able to take an estimate of how much your opponent is likely to bet.  You can estimate the real value of betting against the pot size versus the amount you can offer to bet versus the amount your opponent is likely to place in the pot.  Say for example in a $100 pot if your opponent will be $100 the pot value becomes $200 and you might again will have to call a $100 which means your chances are 2:1 odds, if your opponent does not bet and folds then your odds may change! So, considering how much your opponent is likely to bet is quite important in determining poker odds.

With poker odds you need not really play only winning hands.  At times you might have to consider continuing the game alternating to try some bluffing to win the game despite having a failing hand.  Experience with bluffing develops with trying out some chips after calculating poker odds like this.  Sometimes with poker odds, it may so happen that you assume to win against your good handed opponent, but you may land up just increasing your card strength a little better than before but your opponent still lands up splitting the pot.  At such a chance despite calculating poker odds you may not be in a better stand, so it is important to calculate the estimated loss against the expected gain from a pot versus worth of risk.
